What self control is about, how to know when to speak, and how to know when not to speak?

Proverbs 13:3 KJV

[3] He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

Proverbs 16:32-33 KJV

[32] He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. [33] The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.

Proverbs 17:5-28 KJV

[5] Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. [6] Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. [7] Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince. [8] A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth. [9] He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends. [10] A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool. [11] An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him. [12] Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly. [13] Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house. [14] The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with. [15] He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord. [16] Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it ? [17] A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. [18] A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend. [19] He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction. [20] He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief. [21] He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy. [22] A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. [23] A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment. [24] Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth. [25] A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him. [26] Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity. [27] He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. [28] Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Proverbs 10:18-25 KJV — A firm foundation vs. not a foundation:

[18] He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

[19] In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise. [20] The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. [21] The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. [22] The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. [23] It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

[24] The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. [25] As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

Proverbs 11:12-31 KJV

[12] He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace. [13] A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. [14] Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. [15] He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it : and he that hateth suretiship is sure. [16] A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches. [17] The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. [18] The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. [19] As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death. [20] They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the Lord : but such as are upright in their way are his delight. [21] Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered. [22] As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion. [23] The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath. [24] There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. [25] The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. [26] He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it. [27] He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him. [28] He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. [29] He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart. [30] The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. [31] Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
